According to Holy Tradition, Joachim and Anna brought their three-year-old daughter Mary to dwell in the Temple at Jerusalem, where she was received by the High Priest Zacharias and lived in holiness in preparation for her role as the Mother of God. Her entrance prefigures Christ's own entry into the Temple. The feast is kept on November 21.
