Andrew was the first apostle to follow Jesus, bringing his brother Peter to the Lord. According to tradition he was crucified on an X-shaped cross in Patras — the saltire that flies on the flags of Scotland and Russia. He is the patron of fishermen, Scotland, and Russia.
