St. Lucy

St. Lucy, Virgin & Martyr

Lucy (c. 283–304) died a martyr in Syracuse, Sicily, during Diocletian's persecution; her name means "light." In Sweden and Norway her feast is kept with processions of white-clad girls wearing crowns of candles — a festival of light in the longest nights of the year. She is the patron of the blind and all who suffer from eye trouble.
